Giving Back to Our Community; Northfork Electric hosts #PowerOn Community Food Drive

Over the years, you’ve probably heard or read about NFEC’s concern for our community. This is one of the core principles that sets cooperatives apart from other types of utilities and businesses. We’ve always taken this mission and responsibility to heart. It’s who we are as a co-op.

Over the past few months, like so many of you, we’ve risen to meet new challenges and strengthen the safety net for our community, particularly for those who are most vulnerable. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve made numerous adjustments to programs and operations to maintain business continuity while staying focused on the bigger mission of helping our consumer-members during this turbulent time.

Now, with the holidays fast approaching, these recent events have caused us to pause and think about the role we play in our community. While our purpose is to provide safe and reliable energy to you, the members we serve, we have a greater mission––to be a catalyst for good.

In this time of uncertainty when people in our communities are struggling to feed their families, we want to lend a helping hand.  NFEC will host a community food drive from November 9 to November 20.  All collections will be delivered to the Help, Inc. Food Resource Center in Elk City where Operations Manager Joanna Davis-Wood says the food pantry has seen a 25% increase in need since the beginning of the pandemic.  “We serve 400 to 500 families a month, and we are always in need of assistance whether it’s in the form of food or cash donation,” said Davis-Wood who is one of three employees at the non-profit that serves families in Beckham, Roger Mills, Washita and Dewey Counties.
