81st Annual Meeting Will Be Streamlined Event

According to information in the August issue of “Sparks & Flashes,” Northfork Electric Cooperative’s 81st Annual Meeting will be held under the pavilion at the Sayre Municipal Park on Saturday, August 15th.  Drive thru registration will begin at 9 a.m., and all members that register their attendance will receive an NFEC cap and a tomato slicer knife. Since the print date of the newsletter and the registration cards members will be receiving in the mail soon, details surrounding this year’s meeting have changed. Out of concern for the safety of our members and employees, our goal now is to shorten this year’s event to include the business meeting and the announcement of the grand prize winner.

Upon arriving at the meeting, attendees are asked to use the RV park entrance on the west side of the park where registration of members will be done in a drive thru style method.  Once registered, members will have the option of remaining in their vehicle and listening to a short range FM broadcast of the meeting, or a limited number of socially distanced seats will be available for members who would like to be outside.  If you aren’t feeling well, or are a high risk for infection of Covid-19, we highly encourage you to stay home, or utilize the optional drive in/drive out registration.

Entertainment will be provided from 9 to 10 a.m. by Sons of the Sage, a Western Swing band.  Following the entertainment, the business portion of the meeting will be called to order by Jimmy Taylor, president of the board of trustees. During this time, elections for trustee positions in districts three (3), four (4) and five (5) will be conducted.   Currently serving in districts three (3), four (4) and five (5) are James C. (Jimmy) Taylor, Ransom Snowden and Brent Meador, respectively.  An election by ballot will take place for Trustee Position No. 4.   Members will decide between incumbent Ransom Snowden and challenger, D&B Farms, Inc. – Brandon Hickey, Vice President - Designee.  All members will be able to vote for any candidate, regardless of district.  Members will also vote on a proposed bylaw amendment.

This year’s grand prize winner will take home a Kubota Z121S Kommander mower, sponsored by Lindley Farm Equipment in Cordell. The recipient of that prize will be drawn and announced at the conclusion of the business meeting. You do not need to be present to win the grand prize this year.

Members in attendance will also be eligible to win numerous door prizes.  Those drawings will be held the week of August 17 and the winners will be announced on Facebook, Instagram and on our website.

In the interest of the health and safety of our members and employees, free swimming, miniature golf and the buffet lunch will not be available this year.  Although we are taking extra precautions, members should be aware of the risk of contracting Covid-19 in large gatherings.  We encourage all attendees to wear a mask.  A limited number of disposable masks will be available for those who don’t have one.
